It started under warranty
A written factory or certified pre-owned warranty covered the concern when it first appeared. An expired warranty today does not necessarily erase that history.
An MDX carries families while coordinating a V6 or hybrid drivetrain, braking, collision mitigation, cameras, and a powered tailgate. A stall, bearing noise, brake change, or blank rearview image that survives dealership visits should be organized into one precise warranty chronology.

An MDX may qualify when a warranty-covered condition substantially affects use, value, or safety and Acura receives reasonable opportunities to repair it, or the SUV accumulates meaningful downtime. The analysis depends on the model year, powertrain, VIN, and actual repairs—not the existence of a recall alone.

Start with the repair history
The key question is not whether other MDX owners had the same complaint. It is whether your own substantial defect arose under warranty and remained unresolved after a reasonable opportunity to repair it.
A written factory or certified pre-owned warranty covered the concern when it first appeared. An expired warranty today does not necessarily erase that history.
The same symptom returned, the service center could not duplicate it, parts or updates did not fix it, or the vehicle accumulated significant downtime.
The problem is more than an annoyance and materially limits the MDX’s operation, reliability, value, or safe use.
What happens next
Share what the MDX does, when it happens, the warning messages, and each attempt to diagnose or repair it.
We compare the warranty and repair timeline with the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and the applicable state lemon law.
The facts may support pursuing a refund, replacement, or cash-and-keep settlement. Availability varies, and no result is guaranteed.
Vehicle-specific issue guide
Depending on model year, trim, and powertrain, the themes below have been documented in public NHTSA records and manufacturer safety campaigns. They are starting points for organizing your records—not a claim that every MDX is affected.
Certain MDX V6 engines have been included in a connecting-rod bearing action involving abnormal wear, knocking, loss of power, seizure, or engine damage. Preserve oil service, inspection results, metal debris findings, and short-block or engine replacement records.
Fuel-pump impeller or internal failure on affected MDXs can reduce fuel supply and stall the engine. Document long cranking, hesitation, stall speed and location, towing, pump replacement, and any post-repair recurrence.
Certain MDX builds have had master-cylinder or booster separation and brake-pedal pivot concerns. Changes in pedal position or travel, warning lamps, noise, or movement while braking should be recorded promptly.
A blank center display on certain newer MDXs can remove the rearview-camera image. Record whether the failure occurs at startup or in Reverse, which other controls disappear, and whether a software or hardware remedy holds.
Moisture can enter tailgate lighting on certain MDXs and interrupt exterior lamps. Photograph condensation or water, identify which lights fail, and keep gasket, housing, harness, or control-unit replacements.
An MDX campaign addressed collision-mitigation software that could misinterpret certain roadside objects and apply the brakes. Note the road feature, speed, system settings, warning, and whether programming corrected any repeated event.
Build the paper trail
Save MDX oil and fuel records, engine-noise videos, stall and restart details, brake-pedal descriptions, center-display or camera photos, water inside tailgate lamps, and driver-assistance settings. Ask each order to name the fuel pump, engine inspection, brake hardware, display unit, or software version involved.
Common questions
Record speed, fuel level, warning lights, restart attempts, and any knocking or hesitation, and keep the tow record. Ask Acura to identify fuel-pressure, pump, engine-bearing, ignition, and diagnostic findings rather than writing only that the vehicle started normally at the shop.
Yes. Severity and downtime matter as well as the number of visits. Save the inspection basis, replaced assembly and part numbers, days unavailable, and post-replacement symptoms; a major repair does not automatically eliminate a claim or guarantee one.
It can. Safely capture the screen and note whether the center display, audio, or other functions also failed. A recurring loss after programming or display replacement should be opened as another repair visit.
Potentially. Federal warranty rights and many state statutes can apply to leased vehicles. The lease, warranty, first repair date, registration state, and repair history determine the available path.
No. Recall status is VIN-specific and does not determine lemon-law relief. A cash settlement, refund, or replacement depends on the individual warranty breach and governing law, and no outcome is guaranteed.
