It started under warranty
A written factory or certified pre-owned warranty covered the concern when it first appeared. An expired warranty today does not necessarily erase that history.
A Durango may carry passengers or tow while a steering, braking, propulsion, or shifter defect changes how the SUV responds. Other failures—a blank reverse image or damaged rear spoiler—can recur only under particular startup or liftgate conditions. Precise descriptions keep those different problems from disappearing into one broad complaint.

A Durango may qualify when a substantial covered condition persists after reasonable Dodge repair opportunities or creates meaningful downtime. The engine, model year, shifter design, drivetrain, and prior campaign work must be confirmed before comparing the file with federal or state standards.

Start with the repair history
The key question is not whether other Durango owners had the same complaint. It is whether your own substantial defect arose under warranty and remained unresolved after a reasonable opportunity to repair it.
A written factory or certified pre-owned warranty covered the concern when it first appeared. An expired warranty today does not necessarily erase that history.
The same symptom returned, the service center could not duplicate it, parts or updates did not fix it, or the vehicle accumulated significant downtime.
The problem is more than an annoyance and materially limits the Durango’s operation, reliability, value, or safe use.
What happens next
Share what the Durango does, when it happens, the warning messages, and each attempt to diagnose or repair it.
We compare the warranty and repair timeline with the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and the applicable state lemon law.
The facts may support pursuing a refund, replacement, or cash-and-keep settlement. Availability varies, and no result is guaranteed.
Vehicle-specific issue guide
Depending on model year, trim, and powertrain, the themes below have been documented in public NHTSA records and manufacturer safety campaigns. They are starting points for organizing your records—not a claim that every Durango is affected.
An insufficiently hardened rack bar in certain 2021-2022 Durangos may bind within the steering rack. Record increased effort, sticking, noise, rack replacement, and recurrence.
On affected 2021 vehicles with a 3.6-liter engine, an EGR valve may stick open and cause loss of drive power. Preserve codes, stall behavior, and valve or software work.
Durango ABS-module conditions can incorrectly illuminate brake lamps, permit shifting without the pedal, disable ABS or stability control, or suppress an expected malfunction indicator.
Incorrect park-lock rods, improperly heat-treated shifter assemblies, and pursuit-model shifter interference affect defined configurations. Document failure to engage, gear display, rollaway, or loss of drive.
A powertrain-control-module voltage-regulator fault can produce a stall or no-start in specified older Durangos. Ask the dealer to identify the module, codes, and replacement or reprogramming.
Radio software can prevent the rearview image from appearing on some 2021-2022 vehicles. Capture the display in Reverse and note whether restarting temporarily restores it.
A misaligned rear spoiler may be damaged by liftgate use, while loose or missing curtain-airbag fasteners affect a separate safety system. Track the body and restraint repairs independently.
Build the paper trail
Save steering-effort notes, EGR and engine codes, ABS and ESC warnings, shifter behavior, reverse-screen video, spoiler photographs, tow records, and post-repair road-test results. For a loss-of-power event, note throttle response, gear, speed, and whether the engine stalled or stayed running.
Common questions
Note speed, steering direction, temperature, drive mode, warning lamps, and whether assist changed suddenly or the rack physically stuck. Ask for rack serial or part information, alignment data, and the dealer's road-test findings before and after replacement.
No. An open EGR valve can reduce engine output, while a transmission or shifter defect can interrupt engagement even if the engine continues running. Preserve codes and describe whether RPM, gear indication, and throttle response changed during the event.
They may, particularly when ABS or stability control becomes unavailable, brake lamps behave incorrectly, or the vehicle shifts from Park without the expected pedal input. Keep warning photos, codes, module versions, and each attempted software or hardware remedy.
An intermittent software failure may not appear during a short inspection. Safely record the screen while in Reverse, include the startup sequence and radio version, and make sure each order quotes that the image was missing rather than merely saying there was a radio concern.
The full repair history is reviewed, but attempts for unrelated conditions are not automatically interchangeable. A clear chart should track steering, powertrain, brakes, camera, and body concerns separately while also calculating total downtime and overall impact.
